Oman Visa for UAE Residents

In brief

An Oman tourist visa for UAE residents is usually the GCC Resident Visa (type 29A), applied for on the Royal Oman Police eVisa portal. It costs OMR 5 (about AED 48), allows one entry and a 28-day stay, and is open to residents whose profession is on the official list.

Who qualifies for the GCC Resident Visa (29A)

  • You live in a GCC country, such as the UAE, and your residence is valid for at least 6 more months on the day you enter Oman.
  • Your passport is valid for at least 6 months on entry.
  • Your profession is on the ROP list of approved professions. On 30 October 2026 the list had 116 titles, including doctor, accountant, engineer, architect, teacher, nurse, mechanic, electrician and many manager and marketing titles. "Driver" was not on it.
  • You apply from outside Oman. You need no sponsor.
  • You do not hold another valid Oman visa.

You upload a digital photo and a copy of your passport. You must use the visa within one month of issue. You can request the first one-week extension yourself; further extensions are only possible at an ROP passports office.

To see the full list, open the ROP eligibility checker, choose your nationality, answer that you live in the UAE and click the link to the approved professions.

If your profession is not on the list

  • Travelling with family? If your spouse or parent qualifies for 29A, you can travel on the companion visa (29B). You must enter Oman together.
  • Travelling with a GCC citizen? Family members and domestic workers can use the free 28B visa.
  • Holding a US, UK, Schengen, Canada, Australia or Japan visa? You may qualify for visa 26N, 26M or 36M, depending on your nationality.
  • Your nationality has a 14-day exemption? See the next section.

Visa on arrival in Oman for UAE residents

Plan to get your visa online before you travel. The conditions of the GCC Resident Visa (29A) do not allow you to apply on arrival at the border. The ROP FAQ says the eVisa is the standard route at the border posts with the UAE, and paper applications are only for exceptional cases.

Two exceptions:

  • The GCC Citizen Companion visa (28B) can be requested on arrival at the border, if you enter directly from a GCC country together with the GCC citizen.
  • Visa-free entry for 14 days is possible for some nationalities.

Visa-free for 14 days: which nationalities

Oman's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says visitors from more than 100 countries are exempt from entry visas for up to 14 days. The countries are in two groups:

  • First group: only the general conditions below apply. The Philippines is in this group.
  • Second group: nationals qualify only if they hold residence or a valid visa of the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, the Schengen countries or Japan, or are GCC residents whose profession is on the approved list. India is in this group.
  • Pakistan is in neither group.

For both groups you need a passport valid for 6 months, a return ticket, a confirmed hotel booking, health insurance and enough money for your stay. The 14 days cannot be extended or changed into a residence visa.

When we ran the ROP eligibility checker on 30 October 2026 for Filipino and Indian UAE residents, it did not offer the 14-day exemption, so ask the ROP call centre before you rely on it.

AED amounts use the official pegs: OMR 1 = USD 2.6008 (Central Bank of Oman) and USD 1 = AED 3.6725 (Central Bank of the UAE). Your card may charge a slightly different rate. The ROP says that paying the fee does not guarantee that the visa is issued.

Driving to Oman from the UAE

The ROP FAQ says road travellers apply for the eVisa online and then enter through any legal border post.

Border crossings. The UAE's federal identity authority (ICP) lists these land ports: Al-Ghuwaifat, Al-Darah, Khatm Al Shikla (in Al Ain), Mezyad, Mudhief and Hili. Hatta is a separate land port run by GDRFA Dubai. ICP does not say which of these serve the Oman border. On the Omani side, the ROP names Al-Wajajah as the crossing for travellers coming from Dubai.

Car insurance. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises that your car and passengers are insured for Oman. You can buy cover at the border or from licensed insurers. Carry your original driving licence and vehicle ownership card.

UAE departure fee. GDRFA Dubai collects a departure fee from travellers leaving the UAE through land and sea ports. You pay it at the port, in person, and keep the receipt.

Cash. Amounts of OMR 6,000 or more must be declared when you enter or leave Oman, according to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Indian, Pakistani and Filipino passport holders

On 30 October 2026, the ROP eligibility checker gave UAE residents of all three nationalities the same core options: the GCC Resident Visa (29A) and companion visa (29B) at OMR 5 for 28 days, and the free GCC Citizen Companion visa (28B).

Oman visit visa requirements for Indian citizens living in the UAE are therefore simple if your profession is on the list: apply for 29A online. If it is not, a valid US, UK, Schengen, Canada, Australia or Japan visa opens the 26-series visas.
