Quick answer

  • Where you apply: in the UAE, through the visa centre of the country you will mainly visit. A Schengen visit visa from Dubai normally lets you travel across all 29 Schengen countries for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
  • Cost: EUR 90 for adults, EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 11, free under 6. Each embassy converts the fee into AED. The visa centre adds a service fee.
  • Time: the consulate must decide within 15 calendar days. In some cases it can take up to 45 days.
  • Your UAE residence visa usually has to stay valid for at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area.

Which country's embassy you apply to

You do not choose the country with the easiest process. The EU Visa Code decides it for you:

  1. One destination: apply to that country.
  2. Several destinations: apply to the main destination, meaning the country where you spend the most days, or the country of the main purpose of your trip.
  3. No main destination: apply to the country whose external border you cross first.

You apply where you legally live. As a UAE resident, that means a consulate or visa centre in the UAE.

Where to apply in the UAE: visa centres by country

Most Schengen countries in the UAE work with an external visa centre: you book an appointment, hand in your documents and give fingerprints there, and the consulate decides. Poland and Slovenia take applications at the embassy itself.

Requirements for UAE residents

Schengen visa: UAE residents' document checklist

The EU lists the same core documents for every applicant. Embassies in the UAE add local items. Check the checklist of your destination country, because details differ.

How long your UAE residence visa must be valid

The EU's common document list for applicants in the UAE asks for a UAE residence permit valid for at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area. Most embassies repeat this rule. Some word it differently:

  • Austria: 3 months after the requested visa expires.
  • Italy (Abu Dhabi): 90 days after your return.
  • Spain (BLS checklist): 1 month after the visa expires.
  • Croatia: valid at least until your return.
  • Switzerland: the official pages disagree. The embassy's visit visa checklist (March 2026) asks for 3 months after you leave the Schengen area; its web page says 1 month after your return. We follow the checklist: it is the document list you apply with, and it matches the EU rule.

If your residence visa expires within the next few months, renew it before you apply. Switzerland accepts proof that a renewal is in progress.

Schengen visa fees: Dubai and Abu Dhabi

The visa fee is set by EU law. The visa centre fee is set by contract and differs by country.

FeeAmount
Visa fee, age 12 and overEUR 90
Visa fee, age 6 to 11EUR 45
Visa fee, under 6Free
Visa centre service feeUp to half the adult visa fee (EUR 45 maximum)

The fee can be charged in AED. Each embassy publishes its own AED amount and updates it with the exchange rate, which is why the amounts above differ. The fee is not refunded if the visa is refused.

What a Schengen visa from Dubai costs in total, for one adult (examples from the official fee tables):

  • Poland, no visa centre: AED 388
  • Greece: AED 360 + AED 88 = AED 448
  • Italy, Abu Dhabi visa holders: AED 382 + AED 71.19 = AED 453.19
  • Spain: AED 388 + AED 73 = AED 461
  • Switzerland: AED 395 + AED 112.58 = AED 507.58
  • Portugal: AED 390.50 + AED 143.08 + AED 17.34 = AED 550.92

How to apply: Schengen visa from Dubai, step by step

Here is how to get a Schengen visa from Dubai, in order:

  1. Fix your main destination using the rule above.
  2. Open the official page of that country's embassy or consulate in the UAE. Read its checklist.
  3. Book an appointment on the visa centre's website. Germany uses a waitlist: when a slot is offered by email, the booking link is valid for 24 hours. Italy's BLS centre in Abu Dhabi does not accept appointments booked by intermediaries.
  4. Prepare documents in the order of the checklist.
  5. Attend in person. You hand in the file, pay and give fingerprints.
  6. Collect your passport when the decision is made. Switzerland, for example, returns passports to the centre where you applied.

Processing time and appointment availability

By law, the consulate decides within 15 calendar days of a complete application. It can extend this to 45 days in individual cases. You can apply no earlier than 6 months and, as a rule, no later than 15 calendar days before your trip.

What the embassies in the UAE say about timing:

  • Germany: decision within up to 15 days. The consulate keeps your passport during processing.
  • Luxembourg: apply at least 4 weeks before travel, and 6 weeks before in the March to June peak.
  • Switzerland: apply at least two weeks before travel, and earlier before holidays.
  • Spain: the BLS centre says the minimum processing time is 3 weeks, so apply at least 3 weeks before travel.
  • Netherlands: average 18 to 21 calendar days.
  • Poland: appointments are given in order through the e-konsulat queue; the wait can be up to 3 weeks, and 8 weeks or more in high season.
  • Sweden: decisions are made in Amman, normally within 15 calendar days of receipt there.
  • Iceland: applications go to the embassy in New Delhi, and processing can take up to 45 days.
  • France: France-Visas asks short-stay applicants to plan to get their appointment at least 3 months before departure, and says there is no accelerated procedure.

The EU rule says an appointment should, as a rule, take place within two weeks of your request. In peak season the wait can be longer, so book as soon as your dates are fixed.

Easiest Schengen countries from the UAE: what the 2025 data shows

No Schengen country is "easy" by law: all use the same Visa Code. But refusal rates differ by consulate. These are the official 2025 figures for consulates in the UAE that received more than 1,000 applications.

Source: European Commission, Schengen visa statistics by consulate, 2025. Across all Schengen consulates in the UAE, 298,064 applications were lodged in 2025 and 24.2% were not issued.

How to read this table:

  • "Not issued" includes refusals and applications that were discontinued. The rate is calculated on decisions, so it is not simply "not issued ÷ applications".
  • The figures cover all applicants at that consulate, of every nationality; your chances depend on your own file.
  • A low rate does not let you pick a country. You must still apply to your main destination. Applying to a country you do not plan to visit is a reason for refusal.

Common refusal reasons and how to avoid them

A refusal comes on a standard EU form that ticks one or more of 17 reasons. Here are the main grounds, and what helps with each:

  • Purpose and conditions of the stay not justified. Give a clear itinerary, hotel bookings and, for business, an invitation.
  • No proof of sufficient means. Bank statements should show regular income and enough money for the trip.
  • Doubts about your intention to leave before the visa expires. An NOC, salary certificate and valid residence visa show your ties to the UAE.
  • Doubts about the documents. The Danish Consulate General in Dubai reports a growing number of false insurance certificates and hotel bookings, which lead to refusal. Buy insurance and book hotels yourself, from real providers.
  • No valid travel medical insurance. Check the EUR 30,000 minimum and the dates.
  • You have already used 90 days in the current 180-day period. Check with the official short-stay calculator.

If you are refused, the form names the authority and the deadline for an appeal under that country's law. Examples: Sweden, 3 weeks, in writing; Hungary, 8 calendar days, in person at the embassy. Germany abolished its remonstration procedure on 1 July 2025: you can reapply at any time or go to court.

The 90/180 rule, EES and ETIAS

  • 90/180 rule. A short-stay visa allows at most 90 days in any 180-day period. The number of days printed on your visa sticker is your limit. The EU short-stay calculator checks past and planned trips.
  • Entry/Exit System (EES). Since 12 October 2025 the EU registers non-EU visitors at the border; since 10 April 2026 it runs at all external borders. Visa holders have only their face image taken, because their fingerprints are already on file from the visa application.
  • ETIAS is for visa-exempt travellers only. If you travel on a Schengen visa, you do not need ETIAS. On 30 October 2026 ETIAS was not yet operating.
  • UAE citizens are visa-exempt for short stays in the Schengen area.

FAQ: Schengen visa from Dubai

How much does a Schengen visa cost in Dubai?

The visa fee is EUR 90 for adults, AED 360 to AED 396 depending on the embassy. Most visa centres add a service fee, from AED 69 (Estonia) to AED 160.42 (Portugal, with its admin fee). Poland and Slovenia charge no service fee. Children aged 6 to 11 pay half, and children under 6 pay no visa fee.

Which is the easiest Schengen visa to get from the UAE?

In 2025, the consulates in the UAE with the lowest not-issued rates were Italy in Abu Dhabi (12.9%), Spain in Abu Dhabi (14.1%) and Romania in Dubai (14.5%). But you must apply to your main destination, not to the country with the best statistics.

What countries are not in Schengen?

Older answers list five EU countries outside Schengen: Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland and Romania. That list is out of date. Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania are now full members; Bulgaria and Romania joined on 1 January 2025. Only Ireland and Cyprus remain outside. Four non-EU countries are members: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Other European countries, such as the United Kingdom, have their own entry rules.

What is the fastest Schengen visa from Dubai?

There is no official fast track. Every consulate has up to 15 calendar days by law. A complete file and an early appointment are what save time. Your main destination still decides where you apply.

How to apply for a Schengen visa in the UAE online?

You can fill in the form and book the appointment online, but you cannot complete the whole process online. First-time applicants must give fingerprints in person. Switzerland lets applicants with fingerprints from the last 59 months submit through an authorised person.

Schengen visa from Dubai for an Indian passport: are there special rules?

Indian passport holders follow the same process as other UAE residents. The EU's special multiple-entry rules for Indian nationals apply only to Indian nationals who live in India and apply there, not to applications in the UAE.

Schengen visa from Dubai for a Pakistani passport: are there special rules?

No special rules for Pakistani nationals appear on the embassy pages we checked. The general process, documents and fees on this page apply.
