Conditions and exceptions

  • Your consular district is set by where you have lived for the past 6 months, and Spain's visa centres in India do not process applications from people, Indian nationals included, who do not permanently live in India.

The place of issue of a passport or the permanent resident mentioned in the passport does not determine the jurisdiction but it is the current place where an applicant resides for the past 6 months that determines whether he/she belongs to a specific jurisdiction. Please note that visa applications cannot be processed from applicants (including Indian nationals) not permanently residing in India.BLS International, official partner of the Embassy of Spain in India · checked

  • Under the EU 'cascade' for India (adopted 18 April 2024), Indian nationals living in India who apply there can get a two-year multiple-entry Schengen visa after lawfully using two visas in the previous three years, normally followed by a five-year visa if the passport is valid long enough.

On 18 April 2024, the European Commission adopted specific rules on the issuing of multiple entry visas to Indian nationals [...] This new visa ‘cascade’ regime for Indian nationals residing in India who apply for Schengen (short-stay) visas in India [...] Indian nationals can now be issued long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas valid for two years after having obtained and lawfully used two visas within the previous three years. The two-year visa will normally be followed by a five-year visa, if the passport has sufficient validity remaining.EEAS · checked
